How Hospices Are Resolved Differently from Nursing Homes
Fact: the CMS affiliation entity field exists only in the skilled nursing enrollment file, and no public change-of-ownership dataset exists for hospices. WhoOwnsCare therefore resolves hospices with a direct-owner Associate-ID resolver with a singleton guard (99.5% precision against the validation set). Pre-tenure ownership history for hospices is not resolved, and only 77.7% of hospices (2189 of 2816) have a FY2024 or FY2025 HCRIS period that can be attributed to the current operator, because most CMS owner records for these provider types carry no association date.
